Skye…this is exactly where my wife and I are with the church (little ‘c’). I am basically at complete odds with the little ‘c’ church. I grew up in it, was on staff at churches have missed only a handful of Sundays in my entire life, but in the last few years, the ‘event’ has really been pushing me away. I love the big ‘C’ Church. The ‘Church’ that makes God famous and embodies Christ’s love.
Sigh.
I always refer to it as the ‘business side’ of church. (For us) We have seen that the business side way outweighs the actual ‘loving God and sharing that love’ side of what the church is doing. The Church (big C) is who God has empowered and the one Christ loves (that’s a whole other long conversation)…Jesus didn’t die so we could have successful businesses or wholesome entertainment or so that we could easily check off ‘go to church’ in our ‘How to Get to Heaven List’.
Wow, sorry, I sound really negative in all of that. I just know that we’ve seen the shift of being ‘relevant’ has taken over what our real call is.
I want to make God famous…not make me famous.
Thanks, for this video. I have been ultra involved with the church in the past and for quite some time flip-flopped between going and not going because of the reasons explained and articulated in this video. I am tired of building a pastors castle with a nice coffee shop. I want to build God’s kingdom. This video helped me cement some things in my mind. Thank you!
