This was A really good podcast I love this show
Great show guys. As always I was pushed and prodded a bit by your conversation. I would like to posit one thought regarding the relationship between the Christian and the “expert opinion.” Phil seemed to draw a line between Christians that engage and believe the popular expert opinion because of (presumably) a consensus, and those that scoff at any opinion that might make them think hard or have to reevaluate their world view. I would argue the lines aren’t so simply drawn. While both extremes have adherents, there are also legitimate positions that don’t dismiss science and come down differently than the majority scientific community.
Whether the issue is age of the earth, climate change, or one more I think you mentioned that I can’t remember, it’s intellectually dishonest to separate those that don’t fall into the majority camp as those with their head in the sand. It’s always easy to beat down the ridiculous arguments, but ridiculous arguments don’t verify the truth of the matter. Engage with the reasoned and logical arguments as well, and don’t assume those that hold to a different position are doing so out of spite for the scientific community or the secular culture. Both sides have biases. It’s worthwhile to have a healthy skepticism whatever your position is.
Thanks again for the stimulating thought!
After watching What’s in the Bible, I wanted to know more about you guys and stumbled on this podcast. I’m so glad I did! I
n regards to the Hobby Lobby ruling, this is by far the most reasoned and truly informative opinion I have heard. You guys broke it down to “yes, there’s an exemption already out there, it is simply extending this exemption to closely-held groups” (which, incidentally, I don’t believe I’ve heard anyone actually define as they talk about the ruling). Thank you!
Keep up the humor, the stories (the firework one was hilarious!), and the insightful comments on current events and wacky stories like the electric shock study. I am looking forward to many more of these in the future 🙂
