Hey hey… another momentous day. I haven't posted in a bit because we've been insanely busy here in the lab. As of last night, we finished the first DVD for our new series – "What's in the Bible?" And, even better, it looks really good! We've taken all the techniques we've developed for our puppet shorts and little animated things like Quacky and Alfred Wilberwale, and expanded them to 25-minute episodes. Each DVD will have two 25-minute episodes, that will sequentially walk kids through the Bible. And the first DVD – as of about 10:30 last night – is done!
We're just finishing up bonus features today (including real, genuine outtakes because when you flub your lines with real, genuine puppets you get real, genuine outtakes). What's more, the second DVD in the series should be finished in about 2 weeks so we can have both DVDs in Christian bookstores next March. That's the plan at the moment, anyway – I'll let you know if it changes.
We're pretty excited, though, because what we're doing – in very different ways – may be as ground-breaking as that first VeggieTales episode back in 1993. What I really love about this project is just how educational it is. You learn a ton from these episodes. (In fact, the guy who's doing our DVD design got an early copy of a script and emailed back to say he was learning new things about the Bible just by reading the script!) We're going for a style somewhat similar to classic Disney TV episodes from the 50s and 60s where Walt and his animators would teach America about space travel or nuclear power in ways that were so entertaining the nation couldn't help but learn. It's fun stuff! Can't wait for you to see it!
Gotta go film Buck Denver for the DVD menus…
Looking forward to it and really looking forward to introducing it to my little ones!
Sounds great! Will they be available in Canada?
Thanks for the update! I’m looking forward to grabbing copies to give away at kids church. 100% behind Jelly Telly!
Great! What portion of the Bible does it cover?
Sounds great! Will it include the Fabulous Bentley Bros?
Congratulations!!! Exciting news. 🙂 Better start building those bodyguard puppets for Buck!
Can’t wait! Can we see some preview/clips online?
Hey,
That is exciting news! I can’t believe the first one is finished so soon after the announcement. Why does it take til March to release it when it is finished now?
I can’t wait for it. I guess it would be available at least in Christian stores in Canada. I know these things are usually here in Australian one to two months after releasing in the U.S.
I can’t wait! I’m going to tell all my friends with kids!!!! And ge tthem myself!
And I think the first one is the start of the Bible, yeah?
God Bless

Hello! This a wonderful accomplishment. Congrats Phil and all who labor at Jelly Telly. By the way, my 9 year old (who is a huge fan of VT) checked out the JT website and was very impressed. He also began reading the article about you in the new Focus on the Family magazine. He’s excited about your projects and my husband and I are too. We’ll look forward to sharing them with our grandchildren too. God bless you richly.
Woohoo! Awesome! Buck Denver on the DVD menus is enough reason to buy the DVDs alone. 😉
This is very exciting! Can’t wait to see how these DVDs turn out.
Nice! 🙂 Looking forward to getting this for my kids. 🙂
oh, btw. will they be available on jellybits.com or similar, so that I can download it? I’ll probably just rip the DVD onto our Mac and throw it in the garbage anyways, so the DVD-part is not exactly environmental friendly.. 🙂
walkthru.orgSounds cool. In fact, this concept seems very similar to the Walk Thru The Bible series for kids. Maybe something that a JellyTelly staffer should check into?
um, YAY!! Can’t wait to have a DVD. 🙂
Enjoyed the Book and Muscatine References.
Thought you might like to know that Evelyn Schauland is alive and well and serves with me on The Salvation Army board.
This Sunday (2-4) She is celebrating her 90th Birthday at the Holiday Inn in Muscatine.
And she is still a classy lady.

PS enjoyed your name on the Muscatine Sign in “Big River Rescue!!”
You guys are doing AWESOME work. I am so excited!
God Bless.

You have funny people reading your blog Mr. Vischer and they seem to like the funny thoughts in your head. Good combination, don’t you think?
this really does sound cool. God be with this project.
Woah… Disney 50’s educational stuff inspires Bible teaching. That really grabs my heart. I want my kids to be exposed to this. Just tell us more about it and nobody gets hurt.
So really, as some have asked, what does it cover so far?
Okay, and here’s a throw-away joke title:
“Our Friend the Adam (and Eve)”
Yay! I look forward to the new avenue for Jelly Labs!
We are so thrilled that this is coming! We still put on your old Veggie Tales and I always laugh at how my older boys will freeze to watch them when they are on! Our favorite is still the one taken from Gilligans’ Island! My sons ages are from 28 to 12 and several inbetween! They have grown up on your videos and we will be buying the newest ones when they are out!
Several of my sons and I have read your book and you have been a great example to us of how to keep on keeping on! When things didn’t work out as you hoped, you gave God the Glory for all that you had accomplished, and started over. I too have had to do the same, and reading your booked helped me to start again and watch God shower His Blessings on me! Thank you for sharing your story!
Are you asking for subscription fees now at Jelly Telly? Thats what it said on your jellytelly.com site… 4.99 for a month? whats up?
My children and I have grown to love JellyTelly over the last few months of watching. The sketches are funny, engaging and thought provoking and my kids especially liked the Movie of the Week (although my favorite was probably Buck Denver)… Anyway, we were shocked today to find that it is no longer free. I understand, life’s not fair, things happen… But this now means for our family (due to finances or the lack thereof) that we will have to bid you a sad adieu and wish you God’s richest blessings as you move forward in your new adventure. If it should ever happen that you are able to go free again, we’ll happily welcome you back into our lives.
Congrats! God bless – and God speed!
God, please open the doors for this ministry in ways that the enemy can not stop. Let nothing be closed. In Jesus Name – AMEN!
Can’t wait. We have VT videos gallor. Now, we’ll have a new set of videos that my boys can really sink their teeth into and learn the Bible without even knowing it. They have mini conferences in the summer for them to learn how to study the bible, but this is something they’ll be able to watch over and over again, and not forget as soon as their conference is over.
Thank you for keeping on!!!
I’m praying in agreement with the previous post – “God, may Your perfect will be done – open the doors You want opened – and close the doors You want closed. Nothing You open can be closed and nothing You close can be opened. Set the path straight and show Your light on it that Your will may be done and You may be glorified and many may be ministered to. – AMEN!!!”
