Okay, so here’s something that doesn’t happen every day…
I was in San Diego to speak at the INCM Children’s Pastor’s Conference (which was really fun, by the way), and when I got on the plane in San Diego, it was the same temperature as when I stepped off the plane in Chicago. In February. It was 56 degrees in both cities. And in both cities, the weather was the top news story. Except in Chicago folks were running around in the parks in shorts and t-shirts, and in San Diego the people on the news were huddled together in sweaters saying, “It’s freeeeeeeeezing!”
Which leads us to the lesson for the day: Everything is relative.
Enough about the lesson for the day. Last week was a bit hectic – I spoke Wednesday morning at Moody Bible Institute’s Founder’s Week, then hopped on a plane to chilly San Diego for the children’s pastor’s conference. I was hoping to get some writing for JellyTelly done while I was out there, but between speaking and book-signing and numerous phone meetings, it just didn’t happen. Hopefully I can get some writing done this week.
On the JellyTelly front, we’re still talking with potential partners about additional funding and content. Everyone seems positive – we just need to see if we can pull a deal or two together. In this economy, that will be an accomplishment. If we can assemble a bit more content we may try the subscription model again, but have it tiered, so that a certain level of programming is free for everyone, and then another level requires a subscription. We’re also looking into some sponsorship relationships. Where will it all lead? I have no idea. (I’m a jellyfish… I’m a jellyfish…)
Traffic on the site has risen dramatically since we opened it up to everyone, which is good. If we can keep it growing, we may be headed somewhere.
Buck is having a lot of fun with his new weekly show, “Buck Denver’s Mailbag,” which airs every Monday and Friday. Check out this week’s installment, as Buck attempts to tackle some heady theological questions submitted by real kids. Hoo boy!
Jelly on…
yay!!!!!!!
I’ve looked for good ol’ Buck on Facebook (Phil said he was on there these days; boy, is he culturally savvy for a puppet!), but I couldn’t find him.
I am loving JellyTelly, as are a lot of my mommy friends who read about it on my blog. We’re slightly obsessed, and I think the kids like it too.
Wooot! And I have some good news for you, but I’ll just send you an email…when youre not too busy. Dont wanna distract you from important jelly work. byyye!
Yeah. Thanks to that theological bit, tonight at bedtime I got to tackle the impressive, “Did God die?” from my three year old. Give Buck a high-five from me next time you see him, okay?
Blessedly, being only three (and sleepy), she accepted “Well, sort of … but then He rose again!” as a reasonable answer. Apparently I need to amp up the Bible studies so I can keep up with her as she turns four next week.
Good stuff. Well, maybe not EVERYTHING is relative. 😉
BTW, you’re welcome to Booples content for JellyTelly. 🙂
Hi Phil,
If it makes you feel any better, the temperature rose to 115 this week in Melbourne Australia. Believe me, nobody was arguing about it being hot or cold…we all just melted into the carpet. You’re welcome to the Spoon TV content if you need any additional programming too.
Cheers
Peter
My youngest son is most fond of God Rocks 🙂 he’s got a thing for cute girls i think but he runs around singing their songs (Rock Steady is his favourite as yet). Both are looking forward to this weekends offering of Last Chance Detectives!!
What happened to Buck on Facebook?
To all those wondering why Mr Buck isn’t on facebook anymore,
I don’t work at Jellyfish Labs, but I can certainly give incite to what may have happened.
Everyone who joins facebook needs to have an email address. We notices whenever someone wants to join us as a friend, or we’re tagged in a note, join a cause, message on your walls, personal messages…etc etc etc…
Try to remember the last time you visited his page. Last time I was there, he had 350+ friends and growing. Then I go into the hospital for a week and he’s gone when I come out.
Imagine your email box (however big or small it may be) being flooded like God flooded the earth flooded, with messages from facebook and friendship adding, and notes, and ALL that other stuff I mentioned above in your email box everyday.
thats like 350 emails just for adding a friend. Then 350 more for messages on your wall, and another 350+ for personal messages, or tags or whatever else facebook has to offer! At least maaaaybe 1000 messages a day.
And that new facebook chat. Lets everyone know when you’re online…don’t forget adding that to the bunch…yikes!
After sitting in front of a puter for actual work everyday, you’d have to go home and deal with all that maaaybe. Or let it build up more and more, I don’t know. I bet all of them there at JF Labs are married and have families. I wouldn’t want to deal with all that stuff when I got home too. Thats just me…and I’m just guessing here.
Personally that is alot of unneeded stress for 5 people.
Why not instead of complaining as to why Buck is gone, and just be glad for the time we had with him while he was on facebook. And he’s not completely gone.
There is a group, yes group! on facebook for Phil Vischer/Jelly Telly. In fact I think that’s what its called/listed under.
So go check it out! Join it! There are vids and pictures and everything from Buck’s profile up there with out so much personal hassle.
Hope this clears things up for everybody! Once again, I am just making educated guesses based on my experience with facebook and the dedicated people I know that work there.
YouTube announced today that it is testing a “pay per download” service: http://bit.ly/G8V16.
I still think this has potential; especially for a children’s product that will get watched over and over again.
Check it out Phil!
Hi Lydia and everyone,
Thanks for the thought but Lydia, but that’s definitely not why Buck is off facebook! We love talking to you guys and responding to your comments! Unfortunately since Buck is not a real person, facebook disabled the account. So please please, do find our fan page and become a fan of Buck! We’ll be uploading videos and info there now instead. Thanks you guys!
Liz
Ok ok..it was just an educated guess…maybe I really suck at those huh? LOL.
But thats not fair, I know plenty of people who made up accounts of people that didnt exist, and they got to keep theres. Bleh…
They noticed?
I’m highly suprised……
Where is the fan page?
Actually, Buck doesn’t have a fan page. But we would love you to become a fan of JellyTelly (no spaces) on facebook. That way, we can let you know what we’re up to and you can help us spread the word. Jelly on!

I’m going through JellyTelly withdrawal. Let me explain. My son is OBSESSED with it but is also resisting potty training. After trying EVERY suggestion, every prize, every praise, every everything–we’ve taken away JellyTelly and he can only watch it when he poo poos on the potty!!! Sometimes at night after he goes to bed, I get the chance to watch… 🙂 Just thought I’d let you know that Buck Denver is potty-training my 3 yr old.
hope1032.com.auHey Phil! Can’t wait to hear you on Open House this week! (http://www.hope1032.com.au/)
The interview should be great 🙂
Hopefully this will be a great chance to share your story, and tell all of us here in Australia about JellyTelly! (I bet the hits on the site next Monday will be up dramatically!)
Thanks for volunteering your time for Open House.
Anthony.
Phil,
Do you think an rss feed directy on jelly telly like you have here would help? And how ’bout a prominent place for parents to receive a newsletter, every now and then a bit of encouragement for them to share or do something related to jelly telly?
I may be treading old ground but I thought it apropos, I was looking at adding jelly telly to my reader and then had to do a search on your name to find this here, now I’ll fix my omission. I’ve been here before but that was before I understood the functionality of having a reader for tracking blogs. Some of us are still pretty slow behind the power curve.
Semper Fi, Hank
Now for something completely different:
Did you catch the Veggies Tales reference on My Name Is Earl last night. Very Funny!
