So – just for fun, I have a clue as to where Jesus might stand on the gun control issue. He is OK with you carrying, but not using. Remember – at the last supper when they were heading out to the Garden – He said – Hey grab a sword – they guys were like – we have 2, and Jesus said – that will do.
The next morning when everything started to go south – there was this huge melee and Peter grabs the sword Jesus told him to bring and I assume tried to chop off the head of one of the guards.
Jesus looks at him and says Peter – what are you doing – i can see Peter look at the sword – look at Jesus – look at the sword – look at Jesus and just drop it.
Well – that’s the way i read it anyway.

Nelson, that doesn’t make any sense. What is the point of having a weapon if you can’t use it?
You seem to have quickly ended up in pacifism because in a particular instance Jesus doesn’t want Peter to attack, (while a prophecy is being fulfilled.)
If it isn’t OK to use a weapon, all that having a weapon would do would make it appear to others that you would use it, which, if it were sinful, would be like deceiving people into thinking you were sinful.
So Jesus tells somebody at a certain time not to use a weapon, so you interpret that is, “he’s a pacificist”?
What was the point of having a weapon? So he could be “numbered with the transgressors” and arrested to be put on trial. Jesus is neither a pacifist or warmonger. He is God. The Old Testament rule “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” was meant to keep the punishment from outweighing the crime. It’s known nowadays as “lex talionis” so you aren’t executed for going five miles over the speed limit or having your head bitten off for a light hearted post, but rather having the punishment fit the crime. Jesus never dismisses “an eye for an eye” because it is still God’s rule but in the sermon He gives us an “have you tried this instead? option”. Instead of evening the score, howzabout finding it in your heart to love the person who is giving you the business? Peter spent three years with Jesus and still hadn’t learned his lesson as he clumsily lopped off Malchus’ ear. His epiphany would come later.
Benjamin100 – sorry i did not see your comment until today. I was just having fun with the circumstance, not trying to come down on one side or other of the pacifism issue. I am by no means a pacifist. I have just always loved how Jesus suggested the swords come along and then rebuked their use.
