Good comments on Robin Williams in this episode. I appreciate the ideas and memories shared about that. One thing that has been interesting to me since his death is the recollection of John Belushi’s death. That was another superstar comic that went out tragically. Robin was with him the morning he died, and from what I’ve read he was profoundly affected by Belushi’s death both personally and professionally.
Great podcast! Quick question, though – are you guys sure Robin Williams wasn’t a believer? He evidently was a member of an Episcopal Church….
I’m new to the podcast. What’s with the ding?
youtube.comyoutube.comPhil, I agree, wise words on Robin Williams. As Billy Crystal said, “What a concept!” Such genius and pain rolled into one vulnerable person. I have to admit though, I’m left disappointed by a lot of the tributes to him. So much of it seems heavy on sentiment and light on substance. In my opinion, it actually cheapens his legacy to sentimentalize it. But I decided that instead of complaining about other people’s tributes, I could be the change I wanted to see. By chance, I found a Bruce Hornsby song that perfectly encapsulated everything I wanted to say about Williams. This is the tribute I created from it with appropriate clips from Williams’s films, especially The Fisher King. If you get a chance to watch it, I’d really be interested to hear what you think. You can hit up my little corner of the web for expanded thoughts on it (I’m Yankee Gospel Girl). Thanks!
Oh great, somehow two random instances of “youtube.com” got inserted into my comment. I’m not a spammer, I promise!
In regards to the Young vs. Old earth debate one aspect that seems to get missed is that the main reason for the old earth idea is to support the theory of evolution. So accepting the old earth idea bring people closer to accepting evolution which brings up some big issues in itself. The biggest being one being that if evolution is correct how can we all descend from Adam and be covered by the blood of Jesus?
