This week’s podcast opens up with a special guest – Sunday School Lady from What’s in the Bible? – talking about the end of the Olympics. Phil, Skye and Christian talk about Bill Gates’ initiative to invent the toilet of the future, the search for other intelligent life in space, and about the new billboards from the American Atheists for the upcoming political conventions.

Yay giveaways!
Phil,
“Pete the Ukelele”? Hope Captain Pete doesn’t take offense! You should have Tim Hodge on your show sometime and do dueling ukeleles or something. By the way, I seem to recall his having said once that the correct way to pronounce the word is “ookelele”, but I suppose most people wouldn’t know what you were talking about.
I thought the Sunday School Lady interview was hilarious!
As always, I anxiously awaited this week’s podcast. For months now, I have enjoyed to intelligent conversation and light banter of Phil and Skye and Christian. I have laughed. I have learned. I have all kinds of other “l’ words which escape me at the moment. You can imagine my distress when I finally did listen to this week’s episode. I was shocked – floored – horrified. How could it be that someone I had grown to respect and admire disappoint me in such a profound matter. How can someone who, on the outside, seems so intelligent and well spoken have such a horrible and unspeakable inner secret? I’m still reeling from the revelation that a certain panelist, who I know longer feel comfortable mentioning by name, attended a certain college (though they like to call themselves a university) in Ohio…SHAMEFUL. I am certain that, as a Christian brother, I can get past this, though I am not certain that I will ever be able to listen quite the same.
Yours Truly,
One Disappointed Bobcat 🙂
Dear, Phil Vischer
As I was listening to your response to sending a prop to Mars, I began to think that it is important for Christians to become interested in space exploration. In fact, it would be an insult to God to say that he created this whole universe and only created one planet that can sustain life. If he is a loving God, wouldn’t he want to expand his relationship to other beings. I believe it is important for Christians to become interested in space exploration because we could compare the religion similar to Christianity of other unearthly beings to our own. Therefore, we and also extra-terrestrial intelligent beings can have a better relationship with God.

If you do decide to sell nutty bars in Wheaton give us some advance warning. I’ll bring the whole family from Elgin. There are seven of us.
Think about it.
Yes!! Thanks all of you for your thoughts on the atheist billboard. Great stuff!
You mentioned Albert Einstein buying one suit for each workday. Given my brain’s spastic nature, I was reminded that Bruce Banner bought 7 purple suits for the same reason- so he never had to waste time or brainpower to pick out clothing. Far as I can tell, that’s the only reason “Purple Suits You” suit company is in business…what with the Incredible Hulk always busting his suits into little pieces, etc.
As to Phil referring to himself as “the donkey on the edge”: There’s an old Middle Eastern saying about being unable to get a donkey down a minaret (or rather, the spiral staircase up the tower), because the donkey won’t go backwards down the stairs. (If you’re wondering why I’m mentioning this, I’ll get there..) The appropriate answer is, “You can do so, provided you brought along a short sharp stick and find the part of the donkey which seriously wants to get down.
In other words, you can get Phil away from the edge of giveaways (and still HAVE the giveaways) with a short, sharp stick. Or try a Twizzler.
Keep in mind: Eeyore is almost always correct in his commentary. Example: “We can’t all, and some of us don’t.”
I’m less worried about crushing the spirits of NASA employees and more worried that if we don’t send something into space, they’ll come up with yet another Star Trek rip-off and allow William Shatner on TV for more than a 20-second Priceline spot. We might all volunteer to be sent out attached to the Mars Rover II if he threatens to sing again.
As shown by Phil’s comments on learning how to have a personal relationship with God: If you complain about a problem, any smart listener will ensure you are tasked with coming up with a solution.
If you cannot argue something (e.g. evolution isn’t just about Uncle Chimp, but about Great Uncle Rock) with a reasoned, factual argument, then mock it. Perfect example: Look at the Pharisees’ response to Christ. They never won a single argument with Jesus, so they had to result to mockery. Unfortunately, it became ridiculous (He casts out demons by the prince of demons…) to the point of insane, and yet enough people so wanted to cling to their traditions over Christ’s teachings that they were willing to give even such a loony claim as this one credence.
Something similar to arguments made about “the worthlessness of Christianity” in the face of the overwhelming number of factual historical items which have been given to humanity by Christians. No group has given more to benefit humanity than Christ’s followers…notice this doesn’t come up a lot?
The song Wall-E listened to was from “Hello Dolly”, just for the record.
I’ve recently discovered this podcast and have been catching up on listening to all the past recordings, and am absolutely loving it! And I’ve been telling family and friends to come listen too…keep up the good work!
Christian’s t-shirt: “That’s Ahhhw-some” (I can hear that Mississippi/New York accent) Phil’s t-shirt: A picture of Larry Boy with Mickey Mouse ears. Skye’s t-shirt: “Hey Phil” or combine both texts with image into one t-shirt! With the ook Pete on the back..
