Wonderful summery of scientific cosmology! Thank you! This geophysicist is so very happy to hear Christans knowledgable on the topic and treat it so fairly. To answer the question of how this matters – as someone who studies the earth and earth processes I will say that it gives me a sense of awe over the vastness of Gods universe and my role in it. It also comforts me that the Creator has given us a creation that is knowable and through this knowledge we can better relationship with Him. I firmly accept the antiquity of the universe and faunal succession. I also stand firmly that “in essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity”. You’ve done that last bit very well and I applaude you! WTG Vischer podcast!
Hi guys! I love the podcast and look forward to it every week.
I recently preached in my church on the subject of pride, and I am still being challenged by my reading around the subject (thanks for the pointer to CS Lewis’ essay in Mere Christianity in a previous podcast). Much of my reading came to light as I was having a conversation with a fellow christian. They were the kind of person I normally switch off to when they open their mouth, but as they were speaking I felt that I needed to open my ears. If I assume a person has no valuable input to give and I switch off to them then how can they ever give me valuable input. It really becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. All of that to say I want to encourage Christian. While Phil and Skye often tickle the intellectual part of my brain I am often reminded of the empathy, love and compassion that I so dearly need by Christian. As a person who is prone to only seeking out intellectual information the input of this wise woman of God is invaluable to me.
Thanks and God bless!
Chris
You had me at “Monkey on a leash” – almost embarrassed myself when I heard that one here at work.
Keep up the great podcasts
Just watched the podcast. Last week, I sent in a suggestion regarding Derek Flood’s new book”Disarming Scripture”. After hearing the discussion about Genocide in the old testament I thought for sure THAT was the book Skye was talking about. Except it is very accessible. Derek’s first book would actually fit the bill as well for the “I am thinking of giving this all up” Person. I would sincerely request that you have Mr. Flood on the show. It would make for terrific conversation.
