Last week’s show received so much feedback that Phil and the gang dip into the mailbag to share and discuss some of your thoughts about the role of Christianity in America, and what the phrase “Christian nation” may or may not actually mean. Hang on for some fun as listeners drive the agenda this week!

I appreciate how intelligently you and Skye handled this issue and I appreciate the open mind with which Christian has. The poor thing, I thought she was gonna die last week when she exclaimed – “We’ve all been Brainwashed!”. Good for her for not just closing up and getting all defensive. So here’s the question that I would love to hear you three work through – Is the idea of The United States of America being a “Christian Nation” a good one? From where I sit, I think it’s a bad idea – much like the Pharisees in Jesus time making a deal with the occupying Romans to keep their places in society and keep their “buy a sacrifice” racket going at the Temple. Jesus seemed pretty clear that God and Country were fine as long as you don’t get them confused. In my, admittedly liberal, opinion, the “we must return American to being a Christian Nation like the founding fathers intended” crowd is doing just that – getting God and Country mixed up – corrupting both at best and at worst worshiping the wrong one. So if you still have time for the subject, I would love to hear you guys discuss “Is America being a “Christian Country” a good idea? If so or if not, why? As a corollary, What effects, positive or negative, does being the “official Religion” have on the Christian Faith? Looking forward to next week.

P.S. You guys do realize that with a house band, you could actually do a real talk show, right?
What’s the article you reference about the 25 deadlest man made events?
Thanks, both fun and informative

I had been hearing about your podcasts recently, and I’m so glad I checked them out. Your last two were awesome! I’ve struggled with what seems to be a huge gap in perspective between baby boomers and my generation (I was born in 76) in regards to Christianity and American patriotism. My husband and I are in ministry, I love the local church, but sometimes I feel like stepping away from the American church and starting over. It seems our Americanness has often clouded our understanding of what being a disciple of Jesus is about. Anyhow, really enjoying the deep thoughts and laughs!
