Hi Phil and PVP crew!
I’ve been listenig to your podcast since the beginning but was always a couple of weeks behind due to my crazy schedule. Now I’m FINALLY listening in “real time” (relatively speaking) to your show. I’ve enjoyed the serious and not so serious approach to the speakers and topics, and especially how easily you all are able to segue into Lord of the Rings and Star Wars coments and metaphors. And as for Plinky Pete’s contribution each week–I like how it brings out the kid in all of us listeners. Also, the satirical banter to open our eyes to our common flaws as Christians is refreshing to the grown-up part of me too.
Two questions for you guys: First, the random question because I just ate a “meh” non-Chipotle lunch–what are the Phil Vischer, Skye Jethani, and Christian Taylor “specials”/recommendations at Chipotle? I’m curious because one opened up near me and I’ve only gotten the chicken burrito bowl the 2 times I’ve gone; I want to have a little meal variety.
Second question is for the bookworm in me–what book or books have changed your life perspective either recently or in the past? You often discuss books you’ve heard of or want to read, but I would love to hear about any books that the three of you (plus guest) found life-changing/paradigm shifting/eye-opening/influential in any aspect of your life.
Note: The book doesn’t have to be all of those things–really just one descriptor will work. 🙂
Have a great week–I can’t wait for the next episode! 🙂
One more question…What “What’s in the Bible?” DVD would you recommend sending to a family as a gift? My brother-in-law went from Methodist to Catholic for my now sister-in-law, and I don’t want them to think that I’m sending them things that promote only “Protestant” beliefs. I don’t think you’ve done that in the DVD collection, but I just want to help all of the family understand what the Bible DOES say, not just what we think it says.
Thanks again for using your creativity to help us learn more about what the Bible REALLY does say.
You, all three of you, may never fully know what kind of life-line you are to me. Thank you for the time, energy, thought and grace you pour into this.
youtube.comYour comments about atheist songs made me think about from Steve Martin, who I believe came from a Baptist family, although is now agnostic.
Regarding Skye’s comments about Protestants and the move from image-based communication to text-based communication that accompanied the Reformation. This generation is undergoing a move in the other direction. Take a look at the move from written labels to icons (eg “Power’ symbol replacing ON/OFF, ‘Home’ icon, etc), the proliferation of video on the internet, and the increasing preference of people to watch video as opposed to reading and you will see a strong trend.
This is a challenge for us as a church, and is associated with moves away from propositional thinking towards more narrative thinking. The gospel can be communicated in visual and narrative forms (I have used several myself) but we as a church are often slow off the mark in recognizing and adapting to these changes.
The chicken came first. Animals still have free speech.
