Do churches put too little emphasis on what we actually do 9-5? Phil and Skye broadcast from a lodge at beautiful Lake Okoboji in northwest Iowa in front of a crowd of Iowan pastors! They’re joined by Kansas City pastor Tom Nelson, author of Work Matters, for a far-ranging discussion on the Godly call of all work and the damage done by a false sacred/secular divide and the separation of Sunday morning from Monday morning. This week on the podcast!

Great podcast! In college, I ended up learning more than I cared to learn about Marxism, and one thing I remember was the Marxist obsession with typing the ability to make money to someone’s worth, as if the entire point of work, and the entire value of a human being, was tied to their economic power.
SO, how nice and concise you all were in including the point that, not only does God value our work, that value isn’t tied to money. Work we do “on the side,” or volunteering a retired person does, or the work a stay at home mom does raising kids, holds the same value as a lucrative career. Encouraging!
I so love when Skye starts teaching!!!
I wanted to go into ministry many years ago and prayed for the position I wanted to come available. Imagine my disappointment when learning the spot had opened only to hear God tell me rather emphatically NO. Since then, I’ve learned how powerful my Christianity is in the secular workplace. Just my presence, my availability, my attitude, the opportunity to pray for others… all these very positively influence where I work. I see each day as a ministry opportunity to work hard and show others God’s love through my work ethic and attitude. I’m doing it all for God’s glory. It’s all important.
