Not a Rhode Islander, but a note on the strange Island but not an Island thing. The state’s official name is Rhode Island and Providence Plantation. Rhode Island refers to one of the Islands (it’s not even the official name of that Island, is a reference to the Isle of Rhodes (maybe) and isn’t clear to which Island the name refers). So to say Rhode Island isn’t even an island actually misses the point of what’s ridiculous about the state. Maybe “Rhode Island isn’t even the state’s name and they don’t even know to which island their fake name refers. How does one lose an island? Also what’s this about a plantation, maybe they have more in common with the south than we thought ….”
Awesome episode. I’m an amateur actor from Rhode Island! You do have listeners among the one million people crammed into our tiny state. I wish I was in Chicago this month so I could see the Chuck Colson play, but I’ll have to miss it. Incidentally, Rhode Island is an Island. It’s where Newport is. “The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations” just takes way too long to say!
