How to make an atheist in five easy steps! (Okay, maybe not quite THAT simple.) Phil and the gang discuss Dr. Peter Boghossian’s new book, A Manual for Creating Atheists. What does he get wrong? Even more importantly, what does he get RIGHT? Is faith a “flawed epistemology?” Is it an epistemology at all? The answer may determine the fate of western civilization as we know it!

If it’s in DSM and defined as mental illness, health insurance companies base coverage on this book also… I don’t think health insurance companies what to pay for “deconverting” Christians
Thank you for reminding me why it is important to be prepared for when others will ask what faith and the gospel are.
Everyone’s reasoning on true faith (that can move mountains) was refreshing and correct. Thanks for keeping faith real and understandable.
I hope you’ll do Bob the Tomato’s voice next for opening the show.
Merry Christmas.
It sounds like the central criticism of the book from the panel is that Boghossian mis-defines Faith as ‘belief without evidence’.
If that is so, what is the correct definition?
As a Muslim, is the Christian faith not ‘belief without evidence’?
As a Christian, is the Hindu faith not ‘belief without evidence’?
As a Jew, is the Scientology faith not ‘belief without evidence’?
Please reply, I’d really like to understand.

Wow! This is hard to take seriously. You’re not funny, you’re condescending, and you never refute any of Boghossian’s arguments. Listening to your show was a total waste of time. See if you can get Boghossian on your show. I’d listen to that. I would enjoy watching you fools revealed for what you really are.
Cindy, are you saying you would not be able to be a good person or do the good things you do if you didn’t hold supernatural beliefs? If that is what you are saying, how are you any different from a Chinese person who relies on fate or destiny for the same reason? How are you different from a Muslim who relies on Allah or a Hindu who relies on the god Ganesha?

I am homeschool mom. One if the reasons that I homeschool is because I want to teach my children to critically think. 😉
There are so many things I want to reply to, but the bald guy (as you called him) mentions using testimonial evidence. Have you ever heard of a scenario where testimonial evidence turns out to be wrong? Have you seen all of the cases that have been overturned due to DNA evidence, even though they were initially decided based on testimonial evidence?
