Hey hey… Animation is now complete on The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything – A VeggieTales Movie. After spending the better part of the last 9 months at Starz Animation in Toronto, Mike Nawrocki will finally get to come home, because the new VeggieTales theatrical is in final production. I've seen a little of the final footage, and it looks really, really good.
But wait… you can get a peak at it this weekend if you go see Evan Almighty in theaters. Since Universal Studios is releasing both the VeggieTales movie and the mega-budgeted Bruce Almighty sequel, they decided every single copy of Evan Almighty should ship with the VeggieTales trailer attached, which means virtually everyone who sees Steve Carel playing Noah will know about the new VeggieTales movie. Pretty cool, eh? I've seen a rough cut of the trailer Universal put together, and I thought it was really good.
So… could be interesting, don't you think? If you're planning to see Evan Almighty, let me know what you think of the new veggie trailer.
?
Exciting stuff.
I’m hoping that the trailer will be with the film over here in the UK when it comes out.
Well, I guess I have some reason to see Evan now. Maybe I’ll leave after the trailer ends, haha.
It’s great that the trailer is out, and the movie is coming. My family will definitely be there. But it stinks to think that we have to pay to support a sacreligious movie to see the trailer–and that Phil is endorsing Evan Almighty because of it.
No, I haven’t seen EA, but the commercials (shown all over prime time) clearly show Evan shouting at God because he’s embarrassed, and many situations clearly ridiculing people of faith. As for me, I’ll wait to see the Pirates trailer when I can go to a decent movie to view it.
People, people, people. Let’s go back and calmly review the statements made. 1) Mr. Vischer simply commented that UNIVERSAL had made the decision to attach the Pirates trailer to the “Evan Almighty” film. Mr. Vischer did not make that decision, Universal did. 2) NO, Mr. Vischer was not saying or implying that the “Evan Almighty” film was cool, or something we should see — he was saying it was “cool” that the Pirates trailer was going to be seen by everyone who went to see that other movie. 3) Mr. Vischer stated that he had seen the trailer, not the “almighty” movie, and that the trailer (not the almighty movie) looked really, really good. 4) Mr. Vischer said if “you” (meaning any of us) planned on going to see the “Almighty” movie, to let him know what we think of the Pirates trailer, and um…not the movie.
I don’t think you can read an endorsement into anything that Mr. Vischer said as he mentioned the “Evan Almighty” movie. But, he had to mention the movie it was attached to, you know? Imagine what it would sound like if he had said, “well, the Pirates trailer is out! Go see it!” without telling you which movie it was appearing alongside! I mean, come on, people!
Is it possible that Mr. Vischer is showing excitement over the fact that a movie he wrote the screenplay for many years ago, is finally on its way to the screen? Is it possible that Mr. Vischer is excited that Big Idea and Veggietales are finally getting the wide exposure that he so longed to see them obtain when the “Jonah” movie hit the theaters? Is it possible that he’s just trying to get the word out that a “kid-friendly” pirates movie (as opposed to POTC) is on its way, one that the whole family can enjoy? Is it just possible, just maybe, that he’s excited for his friends at Big Idea, that his friend Mike Nawrocki is finally finished with all the hard work he had to complete (while not being able to see his family I might add) and that they are making it to the big screen once again — even though he doesn’t have much to do with it since he’s no longer in charge of Big Idea — simply because he loves all of them and still has a heart for the things that God birthed through him so many years ago? (Selah – pause and calmly think about that!)
Please, people. Let’s not start accusing others of possible wrongdoings, when we don’t have evidence to support it. The world has enough trouble, without us creating more.
Amen Cookie Lady!
The following is directed towards cookie lady.
Preach it!
It does seem sort of an odd placement for me. Does Universal think that there’s enough of an overlap in audiences between the two movies to make it feasible? Or do they think that since both movies mention God that they’ll of course have the same audience? Or does it just point to the dearth of good movies out there?
We seldom go out to the movies, and the last time we actually *paid* to see a movie was VeggieTales Jonah. ๐
From what I have read, the theme of the movie isnโt about mocking Scripture. I think itโs about how a man follows through with a mission God lays before him. While this mission will ultimately help his fellow man, he is looked at by the โworldโ as a nut. Itโs about choices and making the right decisions even if itโs hard to do so.
From what I’ve seen, the Evan Almighty movie looks quite funny – and I’m happy the Veggietales trailer is linked to it. How kewl is that?! ITA with Cookie Lady! Woooo hoooooo!! Go Veggies, go veggies …
I just want to say…”woot woot” to the cookie lady, and to whoever suggested to just buy the tickets but only sit through the trailers and leave. I was SERIOUSLY considering that, and/or making that comment. But alas, I am a college student, and an artist no less, so that means all my movie money goes towards seeing “ratatouille” as many times as humanly possible (sorry, and harry potter), man they should link the trailer up with that movie! But I would do anything to stop big idea from signing anything with the Disney name.
But I don’t want to put any of my money towards that EA movie at all. And I can certainly wait till it shows up on the new pirates movie website…or youtube (which you know its going to show up there). Phil, you why I have made this declaration! And all those years of forcing me to be a patient person (don’t make me give examples, I hear you chuckling over there!), I know I cant wait.
As for what the cookie lady said about Mike, he wasn’t constantly away from his family for all those months you know. Actually, I came back and visited almost every weekend or sometimes sooner so many times I just gave up and called him in Canada, it was just loads easier to get ahold of him then. But sheeeeooot! That boy generated some serious frequent flier miles if you know what I mean. LOL, go take a vacation in New Zealand for a good long time after all this is over.
Nah, but I know this movie’s gonna be awesome! Ive seen the proof, and I can wait. But I do not promote sucky movies, EVER, so I can wait for this trailer. Yeah Phil, maybe this movie might get a “Foscar” *wink wink* you never know…but beware, cause you know my standards are high. Have a great weekend, man!
I went to Evan Almighty and there was no Veggie trailer. What gives?
Yeah, me too. Avoid the Galaxy 14 in Chesterfield, MO. They must have cut the trailer.
Yeah I don’t think I want to support ‘Evan’ just to see the trailer. I’ll wait. And I’ll be doing so very impatiently ๐
I think it’s sad that we went to Universal in April and there wasn’t nary a mention of the great Pirate movie coming out!? (I even got into a really cool discussion about christin films and nothing was said about the new Veggie movie!?)
I don’t know anything about Evan Almighty, but assuming it’s a sacreligious movie – that’s PRECISELY where the trailer needs to be. The choir may be very good listeners, but that’s not where the preacher is truly needed.
While I respect all of you for your opinion and decisions for NOT seeing EA, why is it assumed that it is sacrilegious? Have you taken the time to read any articles or interviews on the movie, or is your opinion based on the fact that the character looks like Noah and itโs a comedy?
The reason I ask this, is because we (Christians) are sometimes looked at by non-believers AND other Christian brothers and sisters as being angry, condemning, and judgmental.
I havenโt had the opportunity to see this particular movie, but I want to. I read the interview in Christianity Today with the filmโs director, and I liked what he said about making the movie not as a Christian film and not as a sacrilegious filmโฆ.just a film that had a good, funny story.
Since this is Philโs blog, itโs safe to assume we are all pretty familiar with VeggieTales. I can tell you, first hand, there are churches out there who think these little stories are sacrilegious. Depicting a Bible character as a talking vegetable is just too difficult for them to get past. But what awesome stories they are missing out on.
Our pastor this weekend asked a good question: How do you get more non-believers interested in Jesus? 1. Showing love at all times, not condemning or judging and taking care of peopleโs basic human needs first OR 2. Wearing a button that says, โIโm going to Heaven and youโre going to โhellโ. I thought that was pretty funny!
Oh…and let me get off my soap box long enough to tell Phil and the gang congrats on the up coming movie!! How very exciting!
Oooo, Lisa S., I like your first paragraph. And I wonder how many people would answer your question truthfully and admit that they’re really making a judgment based on the previews (trailers) they’ve seen, instead of reading about the movie as you have.
And about us coming across as judgmental and condemning: unfortunately people, we all have to agree that Lisa S. has a point. There are too many people in the world who have been turned off by the idea of becoming a Christian simply because of the way Christians have acted around them, or toward them.
So, I agree with Lisa S. And I have a question for all of us who call ourselves Christians. When we act judgmental and condemning toward other Christians, or toward those in the world who aren’t believers, we’re basically turning up our noses at them. Right? So, do you know what they see? Have any clue?
What’s in our left nostril, and what’s in our right nostril.
“Food” for thought, people. We need to quit acting “snotty” toward others!
And yes, there are those Christians who think that Veggie Tales is a slap in God’s face. Totally amazing to me, but nonetheless true.
Trivia question: in case no one knows this (and I would be amazed if there was absolutely no one who did), there was another movie put out (by Disney I think) that was based on the story of Noah. It was a good movie with a good point. So I put it out there for you all to go digging. What was the name of the movie? Anyone got a clue?
Good points, Lisa S. Keep talking!
Cookie Lady, I believe it was “Last Flight of Noah’s Ark” and was probably out in the 70’s. I remember seeing it at a drive-in as a second-billed, rather mediocre film. Nothing profound, to be sure, but also nothing bad. I was not intending to see “Evan” because of the previews, but after reading secular critics putting it down for being “too Christian and not edgy enough”, and hearing it was endorsed not only by Big Idea (not Phil, per se), but also the Dove Family Film people, and TBN, I’m figuring it must not be that sacreligious. So I will give it a try with or without said trailer when it gets to bargain movie status.
It is true some church people think Veggietales are not biblical enough. For instance, my pastor’s wife once said that you can’t teach kids truth with part of a lie because Daniel didn’t order pizza in the Bible! They should have stated that the angel shut the lions’ mouths, not sent out for pizza. Oh, well.
Hey Sylvia! Well, no, it wasn’t “Last Flight of Noah’s Ark.” Good try though! But I’m thinking of something a little more recent. Before 2000, but a little more recent. Okay, a liitle hint: In the last ten years.
Okay, I’ve seen “Evan Almighty” and if you’re staying away from “EA” because of “BA” (“Bruce Almighty”) then think again. They’re not near the same. “EA” is way better. But that’s just my opinion. And all of you are entitled to yours.
Also, I’ve seen the Veggie trailer! Awesome! I just wish it didn’t go by so fast! And now I have to wait until the movie comes out in….February of next year?? That’s too long to wait! I want to set sail now!
*sigh* Guess I’ll just go bake cookies…
I saw EA yesterday (The Woodlands, TX) and is very good! (The Pirates trailer included)…If God spoke trough an animal (an ass) HE can…
Phil, I hope you make A LOT OF MONEY so we can see more of your projects (I have three boys and I’ve been buying VT stuff for six years, but since “that” happend we miss your writing –Mike and the rest are great, we just miss the xtra laughs that you always add).
Paz
“Paz” means Peace… my name is not Paz
I went to see Evan on opening day and I did not see the preview. I got there 30 minutes before the movie started, and no preview. I even stayed untill after the credits. Oh well. The trailer is now on veggiepirates.com now anyways. So, I’m happy. I have GOT to see
this movie.
You can find Christian meanings in the oddest places. For instance, within the past year, maybe two, we got “Tron” out from the library. The second time I was watching it, I suddenly sat up and said, “Hey, wait a minute. This is the Christ story.”
It’s missing some major points, such as the resurrection, but considering that I don’t think it was intended, it sure came close.
Well, for those of you that don’t want to see the movie, but want to see the trailer, two peices of advice: 1. Don’t criticize something just because of what you see or hear (my Mom has EA as one of the “movies to see” this summer), and 2. Just go to veggiepirates.com. The trailer is finally up and you can veiw it as many times as you want. So, problem solved!
Okay, I finally saw the veggie trailer! At the beginning, it looks like it’s a trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean. It says “This winter…the pirates… arrr back!” It shows the pirates landing on a ship, and everyone thinks they’re heros. Mr. Lunt asks where the bathroom is. At the end of the trailer, a giant rock statue thing lands in the water and Pa says “there’s something you don’t see everyday.” There wern’t any especially funny moments in the trailer, but I still eagerly await the movie!
Saw the VT Trailer with my son. Very cute!! The animation of the ship in the beginning is so good; it looked like the real deal. Mr. Lunt just makes us laugh, no matter what. (Give Lunt his own movie!) I also liked that they used the Relient K version of the Piratesโ song. Looks good!
Sorry for over-posting on this thread.
I don’t think I ever mentioned that I thought the movie was sacrilegious, my soul reason…it just looks incredibly stupid. It didn’t catch me at all, I never saw Bruce Almighty for the same reason…or Fantastic Four, doesn’t interest me at all. I’m just very picky when it comes to the movies I spend my money on. I wont waste my time, energy or money on something like that. Thats why I can wait.
Thats the truth. My entertainment budget for the summer is going towards purchasing Maya, ratatouille, harry potter (book and movie), transformers, and friends…nothing else, especially not that movie. I just feel like my frontal lobe deflated when I watched the trailer…waste of time…
Okay so I ended watching ‘Even’ last weekend and it wasn’t as bad as I thought – actually it was pretty good. But anyway the trailer was AWESOME!!
When it came on my sis and I screamed, much to the embarassment of our friend haha. ๐ The animation looks great and I can’t wait to see the movie!

Exciting news about the Veggie Movie Trailer. Hope it does well.
The trailer is up at VeggiePirates.com! That splash at the end is really awesome. And I love the line “what kind of movie am I in?”
I’ll also say that Evan Almighty actually could have been worse. But not much worse.
Thanks, Brian.
I liked the line, “From the makers of Jonah, the most successful vegatable movie of all time.”
Let’s hope 95% of the people who worked on the latest movie do not lose their jobs like the Jonah people did!
Let’s hope this veggietales movie does better in the box office since it will be more widley released because it is being released by a major studio. Lets also hope that it gets the Acadamy Award for the best animated picture too. Although it will have to compete aganist whatever Pixar film is being released that year.
I don’t see why they should. Most of the animating is subcontracted out of Canada. They should just be able to move to the next project.
Just seen the trailer online, it is really cool! Cant wait to see the movie, and the last line from Mr Lunt is just the best!
Jasini,
Just because the work has been outsourced to canada doesnt mean that the people there cant lose their job. If the movie doesnt so well enough to pay back the ones that worked on it, all the expenses that universal put to it, and more profit to continue further projects, yes, they could lose their jobs. And that what happened to Big Idea 4 years ago. Its just fact.
Phil,
As for the trailer…uuuh…hmm…Ive given it alot of thought, and I dont think I can give you or Mike my opinion on it, cause I dont want you to hate me. Ooor, I may just send you guys emails so I dont get stalked by those on here who gave excellent reviews…not saying that mine is bad.
Talk to you soon!
youtube.comyoutube.comI couldn’t find it on YouTube, so I just put it up on there so hopefully people who don’t know about it at VeggiePirates.com will stumble upon it here:
Phil!!
Dude!! You are The Man! These blooger people getting all jacked up religious about your Evan Almighty announcement thingy … I’m sorry you have to put up with them … us. Whatever. Evan Almighty looks pretty good. Or at least it looks close to “good” … for a huge Hollywood movie about an Bible person. What do you expect, guys? It’ll be a good influence on people. It will make people think of God when they see “Noah” making an ark, even if it’s a Global Warming liberal bildge statement. They won’t be thinking of shutting off the air conditioning in the theater, recycling their popcorn and drink containers, or leaving thier S.U.V. in the parking lot and taking the bus home. They will be thinking of God and the Bible account of the flood they were taught in Sunday School. They will be thinking, “I should go to church”. It will make them consider their own soul. Go to the Evan Almighty website for some good humor and watch the behind the scenes trailer stuff. It’s comical in a hypocritical way. Hours of fun you’ll have, as you can mock them for their self righteous, pompous preachy “green” movie production claims … interviews shot while gas guzzeling tractors run back and forth behind them, and huge piles of butchered trees (lumber) sit in stacks behind them. “We flew our jets here, but we planted trees to ‘zero out’ the carbons.” That’s a real quote. IT’S HILARIOUS!! I’m not making this up. With all that, still Evan Almighty will be good. I am taking my 11 year old and my 8 year old. Plus, it will make you appreciate Jonah and the Pirate Movie.
PS
Lydia is making my gag reflex go on overtime.
The trailer is awesome! I saw it on the movie’s website! I love the beginning. It makes you think it’s the fourth POTC movie! Can’t wait to see it!
Hey Solomon, I thought the same thing! I had to stop and think, hey, wait a minute, I just saw POTC 3, so it can’t be that… but you’re right it was so cool!
And R.D.: lay off of Lydia. She can have her opinion, just like you can have yours. I may not agree with her opinion, but she should still be honored with the right to voice it. After all, you voiced yours… and I voiced mine. So let Lydia have her say.
And where do you get that Evan is a soapbox for global warming? Did I read your comments correctly? Not trying to sound stupid – I guess I just didn’t pick up on that when I watched the movie. What I got was a guy who really didn’t believe that God was interested in interacting with man, who then took the step to try and interact with God, and got the surprise of his life, because he found out that God really DID want to interact with man! God is always looking for a man to get involved in what He wants done, and this is just another story of how that can happen. And it’s a cool story.
And I’m hoping you’re right. I’m hoping that the movie will have the impact you mentioned, that it will make people think about God, and the original flood, and how much they need to be living for God — not just for “flood insurance” (or fire insurance!), but because living for God is exciting!
By the way, since no one ever figured out the trivia question I asked a few posts back, the movie I was talking about was called… um… “Noah.” (how ’bout that!) It was a “made for TV” movie that starred Tony Danza. Another good story.
Cookie,
Yeah, people can have opinions. You’re right. I won’t deny them that. I mean, without pompous “art students” living off thier parents, we wouldn’t have…. wait, no, we’de have most things. But all in all, yer right. People can have opinions.
Cookie!
That was tongue in cheek.
Was that too smarty pants? To personal? Whoops! Sorry…..
RD,
Its sad that you think you can judge people without getting to know them. You’re trying to be “the smarty pants” all righteous, thinking you know everything, and yet you turn around and be a hypocrite in the same post.
I may be an art student, but I do not live off of my parents. I take out loans myself, and as I am rearing the end of my college days, I’m also looking ahead and planning how I’m going to pay off my currently $120K student loans on my own. My parents are good hard working people, and we are not rich. I pay rent, and my car, and everything else on my own. My parents take care of my mentally disbled older sister, ill grandmother, and other 2 siblings. And I took my school responsiblities on my own because I’m an adult, and they shouldnt have to.
With only $30 in my account for the last two weeks I’m not gonna waste it on some stupid movie when i can be patient and see it on the web later. As for the movie tickets themselves, I don’t even pay for those, because I was blessed with free ones. I have my own opinion the same as the next. I care about Big Idea more than you think I do, and its sad that you’ll judge me for thinking I don’t care less over a simple movie.
I give Phil and Mike my honest opinion because they are my friends, and care about what I have to say whether good or bad. Criticism cant always be good, and its the bad ones that help you to grow. But what I said about company and movie success is true. Even if all they want to do is spread good values, it does come at a price and one cant just ignore that. When you ignore it, bad things happen, life profit value. And suddenly your dream will crash on you no matter who you effected with the good message you had to bring. And that happened, there’s a good 20 pages on this blog that talks all about that. And its hard…I bet it hurt so much for them to go through that. I used to think like only the obsessive supportive fan. It didn’t make things better, and probably clouded my judgment that would help me grow as an artist in this industry. I thank phil for helping me to see differently…and his book.
I love this company (more than anything you say or know) for the message, and I want them to continue their message. i would do anything in my power to keep that going. I don’t want it to happen again, and just because you think it looks flashy and amazing cause those are the vegetables you know and love, doesn’t mean it will always be successful. I study art and animation and cartoons because it is my passion. I cant go a minute of my life without it revolving around everything I do. You cant just look at something from a fan point of view. Not all the time…you have to stay open minded knowing there are other factors to consider.
You probably read my blog, and my response to what I thought about the trailer. Which is why I cant blame you for acting this way towards me. Everybody has their own opinion, and a right to give it. But do you really enjoy hurting other people? Cause thats what you did to me now. Should I even say anything on this blog anymore…?
Phil, I’ll just talk to you guys, through phone or email now, ok? I cant take much more of this…
I am a little stunned that the trailer, and in fact the entire Pirates site, fails to mention the word “God.”
After reading ‘Me, Myself, and Bob,’ I feel that this must be a serious marketing blunder.
After all, Veggies were created with one purpose in mind. They were created for the same purpose that we were created; to be bring Glory to God.
Is that thinking wrong?
…
Gotta go – my 2 year old and 4 year old are starting ‘The Star of Christmas’ for the 40, 000th time, and I don’t want to miss the “scary fire scene.”
PS Phil, when can I expect the squeezable Jellyfish Stress Relief Toy for my cubicle? ๐
Lydia
Jeepers! Sorry. Didn’t mean any harm. Sorry sorry sorry. You dish out some fairly upity, high minded critique. I figured you for a tough guy, er, girl. I just thought … I don’t know. I was just bein a wise guy, I was. Sorry again. Really sorry. Sorry Lydia. You seem really sincere. I was too careless. Sorry.
I saw the trailer at Creationfest Northeast, and loved it (read: ABSOLUTELY TOTALLY LOVED IT!) – it’s a great spoof of Pirates of the Caribbean, especially at the beginning.
With Veggietales on TV, and Jonah being declared a “box office hit”, I can’t help but hope that more people will look it up and see what it’s all about. And that the Pirates would be able to mention God, because while it’s fun to do nothing, VT has its roots in a little more than just fun.
Also hoping that wikipedia’s wrong about the names. I just can’t think of the pirates as anything other than Larry, Pa Grape, and Mr. Lunt. :[
As I live in Oz, and they don’t attatch trailers to movies in the same way, I saw the Pirates trailer at veggiepirates.com
Love it, the look, and everything tho I wich there could have been more. Is that just a teaser trailer?
And that Pa quote, “That’s something you don’t see every day” is actually the same words the Unsinkable Molly Brown says in Titanic when she sees the ship tilted from the lifeboat. Do you think that’s an intentional reference?
Can’t wait- and I’m holding out on the promise that its a WORLDWIDE release.
Jonathan
Well, to add to the discussion I must say that I`ve seen the Evan Almighty movie *gasp!* lol It was great! I actually thought that it supported many Biblical things. The only thing I would have liked was there to be some sort of surrender to God`s will, from the main characted Evan (like Bruce in the first movie). But besides that, it was an awesome movie with a great massege. Practically the point of the movie is to do what God told you to do even if people think you`re nuts! Not only that, but to tell people that God told you to do it too. It doesn`t get any better than that considering it was from Universal. I`m 17 yrs old and my family and I saw and we all loved it. ๐
Sarah! Hate to be tthe bearer of bad news but… Wikipedia’s right about the names!
Phil,
The trailer looks fantastic. I can’t wait to see the Pirates who Don’t do Anything. Not only does it look visually impressive but I’m sure the writing and the humor that you and Mike have injected into it will be stellar.
A quote from the king in the Esther veggietale video ” make me a sandwich”. Not sure why I quoted that. I just love to say it.
Take care,
Patrick
Ok, so I am a 33 year old mom of two and we have loved Veggietales from the first time we saw them. We buy them faithfully on the release date and were in the theatre for opening day of Jonah. I had no idea about any of this stuff Phil mentions here. I have heard that Veggietales are on TV now and that God is pretty much edited out. It saddened and angered me at the same time. My question reflects a comment someone else made about the trailer…..God is NOT mentioned! Is this movie a watered down version of what Veggietales was intended to be like the stuff now on TV?? Making it more pleasing and politically correct for the mainstream? I don’t think i could bear taking my children to see it if God isn’t in it. There is enough junk out there that leaves God out and promotes the ways of the world and I love that with Veggietales I can expose them to movies they love but will support my goal of teaching them about our God.
Becki, I’m with you – but let’s you and me wait and see the movie… I have a feeling that God will be in there. The LORD has a way of getting into everything… just like Jellyfish Phil is an Insurgent at Big Idea – lately -OR- for now, anyway.
PS. Does anybody get the feeling that Cookie Lady is related to Phil. Or maybe even Phil in drag?
Just kidding Cookie Lady! We love you!
PPS Someone Special just explained to me that “prodigal” doesn’t mean “lost;” it means “wasteful.” Something to think about…
Oh my word, Sygcheo! I’m glad you said you were kidding!
I am NOT Phil Vischer and he is not I (me?). Nor are we related.
Phil Vischer is the creator of all things Veggie-Tale-able and all things Jellyfish-able, and his creative genius knows no bounds.
Me? Ah, well… I just bake cookies… ๐
As for the Veggie Pirates website and the trailer itself, I’m pretty sure that both of those were created solely by Universal, and I don’t think they saw a necessity in mentioning God. I feel certain the movie itself will mention God. I can’t imagine the folks at Big Idea letting the movie get out the door without it mentioning God. Can you?
To add to your “something to think about,” Sygcheo, does anyone remember that when the prodigal son received his inheritance from his father, his brother also received his at the same time? And when the prodigal returned, the other brother still HAD his inheritance, because he had not wasted it. And his dad also told him, “You know that anything I have is yours.” So why was he so jealous of his prodigal brother? If he had wanted a party with his friends, why didn’t he just ask for one?
I saw Evan and enjoyed it for what it was. The Pirates trailer definitely stood out among the unimpressive crowd of other coming attractions.
Becki, be sure to read “the REST of the story” about Veggietales on TV. The part about how NBC changed its mind and now DOES allow the shows to go on as planned. Also, it’s very hard to know what’s in a movie by a half-minute teaser-trailer. Trust the writers– we know them well!
P.S. I’m even older than Phil, and have no kids, (except for school and Sunday School), but classify myself as a Veggie-fanatic!
Thanks for the responses. I had not heard that NBC did decide to air the episodes the way they are. That is very cool. Honestly we have cut off our cable so we don’t really watch much broadcast TV just occasional movies. We found TV a big time waster (for mom too sometimes!), the content is questionable and well I would rather have my kids exercising their minds and bodies than watching nonsense on TV all the time. (I think I am getting old, I am beginning to sound like my mother did!) Anyway my point is just that the info i had was just second hand so I am glad to hear that has changed.
As for content of the new Veggie movie, I sure hope that all of you are right and that there is the same sort of strong biblical theme and teaching about God that we all know and love! I would be so sad without my Veggie fix!
I just watched the trailer with my 3-year-old daughter on youtube and she loved the addition of the princess. She then had to watch it FOURTEEN more times for good measure. When we go to see this movie, it will be her first time in a theater. I do have one question- Where is Bob?
P.S. I love the wicker line!
Hi. Gotta say first of all that I love Veggietales and can’t wait to see the Pirates movie.
Was absolutely gutted that the trailer didn’t show when I went to see Evan Almighty.
As to all the comments about EA. I thought it was a great film personally. It may be a comedy and it may dress someone up as Noah but it makes a lot of good points. One comment ^^ up there that I noticed said it was awful cos the main character yells at God.
Haven’t you ever yelled at him? I have. I get ridiculously annoyed sometimes when I realise that God knows best. Especially when what He knows disagrees with what I think I know. I left the film thinking very seriously about a few issues.
I’d never really thought about how Noah convinced his wife and sons to help him build a boat. And it does tell us in the Bible that the neighbours did think him totally crazy. So it’s probably not a bad depiction of the truth (except that Noah was a totaly righteous man hence being saved). Also, it made the reassuring point that even if we fight God every step of the way he knows what’s best and we should trust him that things are gonna work out.
Building an ark is just about as crazy sometimes as being nice to horrible people etc. We each have different things that we find difficult but God’s there every time.
I just wanted to point all this out and quite often you can still learn a lot from films even if that wasn’t part of the original intent. Often , as a group, we are too quick to judge things and protest that they are immoral etc. In this day and age though, that only makes a lot of non-Christians even more curious about it.
eg. Da Vinci Code. I love that book! It’s a great fictional tale. But when the churches etc all shout about how awful it is. Some bright folk out there start to think ‘hm. the church is complaining? Maybe its true…..’
Anyway, rant over. Go Veggietales!
I’m with Patrick Burke… โ make me a sandwichโ.
I say that a lot, too. Just to say it. Cracks me up.
You all are very interesting to read. Thanks for the evening of “entertainment” (for lack of another word showing up in my brain at this late hour).
Can’t wait to see the Veggies Pirate movie. I walk around saying “the Pirates movie” and realize that I have to qualify it because there is another set of movies out there referred to by that phrase. Alas, the injustice….
Happy Blogging – Liza
p.s. I am also a Pirates of the Carribean fan, too.
About the “lack of God” in the Pirates trailer and web site: As best as I can remember, the Pirates were never especially godly to begin with. After all, they started out as one of Larry’s Silly Songs, not a full-fledged VeggieTales episode. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, just pointing it out.
Sooo, the Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything is out? (Pardon me if that’s not the name.) If it isn’t, when will it? Hope to see it some time or other.

(Read it backwards if you can’t figure out that last sentence!)
LOVED the trailer!
We’re huge PWDDA fans… so my family (kids are 18, 15, 13) is waiting with bated breath.
I can’t wait to see The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie. Will Junior Asparagus, Dad Asparagus (Junior Asparagus’s dad on Wikipedia), Bob the Tomato, or any of Junior Asparagus’s friends be in it? Will Mom Asparagus (Junior Asparagus’s mom on Wikipedia), Rosie Grape, Esther (from Esther … The Girl Who Became Queen), Queen Vashti (from Esther … The Girl Who Became Queen), or Khaliah the Caterpillar ever surface? One more thing in Moe and the Big Exit, Ma Grape made her first appearance since God Wants Me to Forgive Them. When will she appear again? I can’t wait to see the new pirate movie.
Flamingo, I don’t think that was Ma Grape. She has eyes. Second, all of the above comments are entertaining.
Your book is really sad. It made me cry. I bet YOUR kids are really well……….torn apart. You must be really sad too. I think that the JONAH movie is really good! I don’t know why the stupid Lyrick people filed a law suit against you. How did you come up with the idea for the name BigIdea? It’s a good buisness name. VeggieTales are funny!!!!:)
