You would be surprised, but racism still exists in some small town churches…it is beyond my understanding how we can hate someone just because of the color of their skin but some Christians do… as if white people are so great 😉
No. I haven’t listened to this weeks podcast yet. But I just listened to the “Ham on Nye” debate (love that one) and thought I would just write a quick note to point out that Ham did in fact give a nod to the “old earth Creationists” in his presentation section, basically with a quick explanation of the origin of sin and how he felt it didn’t fit with the Biblical model for an old Earth. I applaud Ham’s unapologetic use of scripture to lay the foundation upon how he then approaches science using “natural” or scientific method. If only Nye would recognize his own FAITH in doing the very same thing when he “makes his predictions” that he kept insisting Ham to be dodging. I think ultimately a widely-viewed debate such as this will not win MANY converts to either side, but the gospel was clearly stated, and intelligently so. I find it a little disturbing that so many Christian debaters who debate science fields, stay only in the science department and do not venture into the scriptures – ( see the Unbelievable? Podcast debate from 6/22/13 on the topic of Natural vs. Presuppositional Theology for a good discussion on the two types of apologetics) for their inspiration.
I totally believe Sky is right about Cheerios banking on the controversy. Phil’s comment about big business looking after your best interests….hahahaha!
Yet another fine show full of spirited, respectful debate. The crystal skull is a fine addition. Here’s hoping it doesn’t start to glow and shoot light rays from its eye sockets during a taping. Regarding the theme song, I think it is time to abandon it in its present form. Change it to Muzak and play it under the show introduction at the show’s beginning. Better yet, adopt a “LOST”-style intro where the name PHIL comes into focus against a black background and Pa Grape’s voice says, “Previously on Phil”, then play a few snippets from the most recent show.
It was good to see a glass head instead of mugs full of diet Dr. Pepper. I hear diet drinks can make your brain make bubbles of space where gaps of intelligence are missing. Sounds like the ‘pop’ culture that you discussed. I like the religious news and how Christians see themselves or others perceive them. We need more transparency in the church like the glass head. Thanks for doing that each week.
One thing I disagreed with on your podcast this week was your depiction of Beyonce and how she dresses sexy or acts sexy just for the sake of pleasing men. While I do not listen to Beyonce, I do know that the vibe I get from her is that she dresses sexily for herself, not for men or for women. Also, I do know that she has a huge female fanbase. Therefore, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that her performances are the way they are to please men and for that reason only. Sure, she may want a male audience, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say that is the only reason she acts the way she does. I still think of her as a sort of feminist icon because of this reason.
Yes, but do women dress provocatively for other women? What would they be trying to provoke? (Other than envy, I suppose.) Historically, if a woman presents herself in a sexual manner, it is to attract men. That’s kinda how this whole human sexuality thing works. So I’m not sure I quite buy the “I dress sexy for myself” argument, unless we’re saying that the sexualization of women has so affected human belief that women can’t approve of THEMSELVES unless they are considered sexually provocative. If that’s the case, it truly is a sad world for women…
