Episode 134: Goodbye 2014, Welcome 2015!

Welcome to 2015! Skye, Christian and Phil are back talking about movies, worldviews and, you guessed it, the end of western civilization. Plus our friends at Barna Research give their top 10 trends of 2014!
No. No. As much as I love and appreciate Christian, I must express my profound disappointment in her surprise that Phill a “non Pastor” would be allowed to preach. It was not my understanding that the CMA group regarded the sermon as as a sacrament administered by THE clergy class. It may be that she was being sarcastic and in my inattentiveness I missed that. In the broad scope NT theology Phill’s ministry may be as pastoral as well as a Minister of Education.
May the peace of God overwhelm you.

Hey Phil,
Love the show and personally I prefer the ukulele over Skye’s bell, just so you know. Anyway, I wanted to comment on the review(?) of Unbroken. It sounded like none of you had actually seen the film prior to reviewing it on the show, and I would recommend seeing it. It is true that his actual conversion to Chrsitianity is not depicted theatrically in the film but it is clearly told at the end of the film as are his efforts to seek out his captors. It even specifies that this action was motivated by his faith. Furthermore, throughout the film the draw of God on his life despite his continual rejection and its display through those around him is made blatantly obvious. It is also clear in the film that Louis would later credit God with his preservation. Finally, to me it was clear that the main theme was not grit and protestant work ethic (though those are both present) but instead forgiveness and redemption. I would highly suggest you guys see the film and then comment on it. I do wish that the theatrical portion of the film had shown the conversion and the actual attempts at reconciliation, but I don’t think it is fair to say that the message is one of “if you are the right person and work hard enough, you can make it through anything”.
