Hey y'all – remember JellyTelly? Yep, our website "mini-network/tv show" for kids. Well, my cohorts here at Jellyfish Labs have been working on a new version in partnership with Focus on the Family, and it has launched in beta. You can check it out here.
The whole site has been rebuilt to be more flexible, to allow more content to be posted more rapidly, and to let folks (like you!) give feedback and help improve the site more easily. We're still working on the revenue model (meaning, the "how do we make money off of this so we can keep it going?" model). The beta version of the new site is free for now – and we're going to experiment with A) letting people support it with donations rather than subscriptions, B) letting other ministries support the site in exchange for promotional references, C) having a free version, and then subscription access to a "deluxe" version, and D) anything else we can think of.
We still believe there is a need for an online experience like this, we just aren't sure we've hit on the winning formula quite yet. So on we go! If at first you do not succeed, try, try again!
Anyway, check out the new site and give us some feedback. We hope you like what we're doing!
Hey!
Great to hear from you.
I agree about the online biz model – what in the world will it be? Netflix? Content is king.
Booples is available to watch on my site and purchase for download, but I get very few purchases (though a lot of views). The internet is one big race to the bottom as far as $ goes. 🙂
Our family loves Jelly Telly (or Deli Telly, as my 2 year old calls it). It is a great mixture of puppets and shows and really appeals to a broad age range. I like the new site, with the flexibility of choosing what to watch, but I believe that this option would work best if there was still a daily show. In the past, we would watch the daily show, (ok, they sat at the kitchen table and watched while I cooked and listened), but then my older son would always want to look at past days and find a God Rocks episode or God’s Amazing Animals to watch while his brother is sleepng. He really loves the addition of Adventures in Odyssey, but misses God Rocks. Both of them also enjoyed Go Fish and are hoping that you keep it, plus add the Fantastic World volume 2. I also have to add that as a parent, I liked the way Buck Denver answered the question about evolution. Thank you for continuing to create quality children’s entertainment. God bless.
I gave copies of WITB 1,2, &3 to my children’s ministry pastor and asked him to watch it w/ his kids. He had a comment from his daughter that there weren’t any girls in the dvds. (he doesn’t have sons) When I thought back on this the only female character is the Sunday school lady. He wanted to know if more female characters were in the works. Not sure what to tell him.
I agree with eastmankidsmom. I loved the daily show format. It was a good item to set the kids down and let them watch a “show” without having to select each individual episode.
This is great! I don’t have internet access to watch this alot of times, but I just watched the “Humility” episode and I love it! I pass God’s blessings on you, that you might be successful in all of your endeavors.
“You’re a puppet! You don’t have feet!”
“That doesn’t mean I can’t have a shoe.”
Nice update. Glad to see you got away from flash, now I can watch on my iPad. Question: where is the info about ministry sponsors?
Thanks
Aracelli, there is one more female character in episode 4, a stage manager.
I didn’t grow up in the US, so I just started watching VeggieTales in the past few months with my 3 yr-old and 1 yr-old. Our whole family loves it and I learned a lot of Biblical lessons from it.
Today we watched Jonah. I’ve heard that Big Idea got into financial problems after making it’s first full length movie, so I googled it up, ended up on this website, and learned about the story behind what happened to Big Idea.
We started the Jonah movie 40 minutes late because my husband and I just couldn’t stop reading your article on Big Idea. It made me really sad when I started the DVD. But as I watched Jonah, I believe that God is the God of second chances, even after the whole Big Idea collapse.
Then I found out about Jelly Telly. It definitely brought hope back to live. I haven’t read “Me, Myself, and Bob” but I hope I’ll find a copy soon. I also don’t know much about Big Idea, VeggieTales or Jelly Telly. I just learned about WITB tonight. But I’m really excited.
Thank you for your continuous work in providing my children and millions others more resources to learn about God. I’m excited about diving into Jelly Telly and WITB and taking my family along. And I’m going to share this with my friends and make a link to Jelly Telly from my blog.
God bless your ministry.
I love Jelly Telly!!! My kids need to watch things where the characters don’t have sassy attitudes toward parents (if a parent is on the show at all)! That’s the nicer side of TV for kids today. So I thank you for that! I find the format could be organized better (especially mobile) and it’s slow. I’d also love to see an Apple TV app. I already subscribed, but Is there a way I can financially help in the development of this resource? It needs to compete with the ease of Apple TV or Netflix. Thanks in advance for hearing me out.
